Soundtrack Update! + some extras
Thanks to the amazing fotocopiadora the soundtrack is now groovy, 100% legal, dark ambient vaporwave (Encartacore? like an electronic equivalent to Dark Academia?). There's more variety in the general pieces of music as well. The game now draws from both the age of dissolution and existential victory albums. Check out the links to download and listen to them in full! I really love foto's work and I think the vibes not just match but totally build on the effect I was going for with the story.
So that's a major thing I wanted to improve, now done. This update also includes some minor tweaks to how text displays, a (hopefully) nicer default text speed and auto mode, plus colors to make it easier to tell when one of the main characters is speaking (sorry Simon). A bug where the music would stop after opening the settings menu is also now fixed thanks to the RenJS dev, lunafromthemoon. Their new game, Imaginaria, is another cool visual novel that uses a 1 bit pixel art style and tells a lovely and fascinating story about living on a research base in Antarctica. I highly recommend it and found it really inspiring!
No new story material (in-game) yet! Over the past week or two I've been mostly writing a short story that takes place in the same universe, but involves totally unrelated characters. I'm not sure what to do with it, or sure that I'm confident enough in it to show it to anyone yet, but it may be something that accompanies the game like a zine or Twine project eventually.
Thank you to everyone who's played and left nice comments here or elsewhere so far! I am having a ton of fun just fiddling with this when I have a bit of free time. :)
